Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

Oh, and I would add, that's a sign of our times and how our values have gone, when we think that values and community must be traded for profit. Visionary business leaders of the past, including radio, believed not only you could have it all, but they complemented each other. Now...tell me how Clear...

Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

And historically, many of these trends are not stopped until enough people stand up and say, "Enough. This is fucked up. This is wrong. No more."

Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

You write like the economy is some kind of machine, a nimble minx that quickly rewards the worthy and punishes the unworthy. I think modern history makes it clear that it is clearly not so. All kinds of powerful people parachute from companies going down in flames, while good, hard working see their...

Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

Having cash alone is not vindication of one's worthiness. The rich executives whose tin ears have reduced radio to, if not oblivion, then surely cultural irrelevance...are they really worthy of the dollars they command? When you look at the performance of the businesses and their stations...really, ...

Re: How Radio Will Survive!

But one way or another, those guys are on the way out. IMO, the national chains that rely on radio primarily or solely will be out of the business and the industry will devolve back to local and regional owers. Not completely, but the "national branding" stuff has clearly proven to be a failure. In ...

Re: How Radio Will Survive!

Brother, too right. Live, local, intimate, immediate, the things that radio can do in combo unlike any other medium. These are how radio will regain and stay relevant. The captains of industry who believed these things were no longer important are the ones who almost drove radio to cultural irreleva...

Re: In a world without Clear Channel

Radio returning to this is the only way it will achieve anything resembling cultural relevance again. It's not about technology, it's about people falling for the alternate technologies when the moneybags thought they could run radio on the cheap.

Re: NO EGOS!!!

Egos are necessary for ANY artist of any real quality. Now, by ego, we don't mean "arrogant, abusive douchebag". But we DO mean someone who knows they are talented, someone who is skilled and confident in the craft, someone who knows how to do a SHOW rather than a shift. Someone who brings something...

Re: No matter how you celebrate it...

Indeed, we can.

I don't know about 2010, but it will get better for us at some point.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and from a cheap bottle of Gato Negro Chillean merlot, I pour on the ground for our homies that have gone one...
